Ralph Kirshbaum (ラルフ・カーシュバウム)。アメリカの男性チェリスト。1946年3月4日生まれ。
テキサス州デントンで生まれ、タイラーで育った。父、ジョセフ・カーシュバウムは、プロのヴァイオリニスト、作曲家、指揮者、音楽教育者、1944年から1947年まで、父親のジョセフ・カーシュバウムはノーステキサス大学音楽大学の教職員であり、交響楽団も指揮していた。オベリン音楽院弦楽オーケストラを組織し、監督もしていた。またコーネル大学で弦楽器を教えていた。母親のガートルード・モリス・カーシュバウムは、テキサスウーマンズ大学でハープを教えていた。6歳のときに父親の下でチェロを習い始め、11歳のとき、彼はロベルタ・グアスタフェステ(南メソジスト大学の音楽学部に所属し、ダラス交響楽団のメンバーも務めていた)の下で研鑽を積んだ。14歳で、彼はレフ・アロンソン、そしてダラス交響楽団でチェロを学び、15歳でダラス交響楽団のソリストとして出演した。イェール大学音楽大学院ででアルド・パリソット(Aldo Parisot)に師事した。イェール大学を優等で卒業。1969年にイタリアのフィレンツェで開催された第1回国際カサドコンクール、続いて1970年にモスクワで開催されたチャイコフスキーコンクールで賞を受賞。1970年にウィグモアホールでロンドンデビューリサイタルを行い、オーケストラデビュー。1972年にチャイコフスキーのロココ変奏曲をロンドンのニューフィルハーモニア管弦楽団と共演、1976年にはメトロポリタン美術館でニューヨークデビューした。これまでにBBC交響楽団、ベルリンラジオ交響楽団、ボストン交響楽団、シカゴ交響楽団、クリーヴランド管弦楽団、ダラス交響楽団、マンチェスターのハレ管弦楽団、イギリス、ヒューストン交響楽団ロンドン交響楽団、ロサンゼルス交響楽団、新フィルハーモニア管弦楽団、フィルハーモニア管弦楽団、ピッツバーグ交響楽団、サンフランシスコ交響楽団など世界の主要なオーケストラと共演。室内楽奏者として、イェフィム・ブロンフマン、ペーター・フランクル、ジュリアード・ストリング・カルテット、ギャリック・オールソン、ジェルジ・パウク、イツァーク・パールマン、ギル・シャハム、東京カルテット、ピンカス・ズーカーマンなどと共演。1988年にRNCMマンチェスター国際チェロフェスティバルを設立。2008年より、南カリフォルニア大学ソーントン音楽学校で、弦楽学部学部長、およびチェロのグレゴール・ピアティゴルスキー議長に任命された。現在ロサンゼルスに在住。
