Penelope Thwaites (ペネロピ・スウェイツ)。イギリスの女性ピアニスト。1944年4月18日生まれ。
オーストラリアのメルボルンで育ち、1966年にメルボルン大学で音楽の学位を取得。音楽監督や劇場音楽の作曲家として国際的に活躍した後、ロンドンでウィリアム・L・リードにオーケストレーションを学び、ピアノはウォルター・ギーゼキング、セルゲイ・ラフマニノフとよく共演していたスイス人ピアニスト、アルバート・ファーバーに師事した。1974年にロンドンのウィグモア・ホールでデビューした後、英国内でのコンサートや放送、世界各地でのツアーを行い、ソロリサイタルや協奏曲のソリストとして活躍している。1993年には、ロイヤル・オペラ・ハウスで行われたオーストラリア・デー・ガラに、プリンス・オブ・ウェールズの臨席を得て出演した。ソリストとして、ロンドン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、フィルハーモニア管弦楽団、BBCコンサート・オーケストラをはじめ、オーストラリア、ヨーロッパ、アメリカの主要なオーケストラと共演している。レパートリーはクラシックの作曲家を幅広くカバーしており、CD「Travelling Between Worlds」（LIR）にも収録されている。1975年以降、マルコム・ウィリアムソン、マーガレット・サザーランド、アーサー・ベンジャミン、ペギー・グランビル＝ヒックス、ジェニファー・ファウラー、アリソン・ボールド、デヴィッド・ウォラルなど、オーストラリアの作曲家たちの音楽を、ソロ・リサイタル、協奏曲、室内楽作品などに積極的に取り入れてきた。メルボルン生まれのピアニストで作曲家のパーシー・グレインジャーの音楽を260曲以上録音している。2016年にHeritage Recordsから、2台のピアノ4手のためのグレインジャー音楽全曲のボックスセットが発売され、スウェイツとラベンダーによる3枚の先行録音に加え、ペネロペがティモシー・ヤングと2016年に録音した4枚目のCDが収録された。ウィグモアホールでの2回目のリサイタルを行った年（1976年）に、アラン・ソーンヒルとのミュージカル「Ride! Ride!」の作曲を担当し、アマチュアとプロの両方で40回以上上演され、1999年には伝説的な俳優であるキース・ミシェルを起用したコンサートバージョンがSOMMレーベルで録音された。作曲は、歌曲、オルガン・ピアノ曲、室内楽曲、映画音楽、バレエ音楽など多岐にわたり、Bardic Editionから出版されているが、そのカタログは現在Schott Musicのインプリントで配布されている。2020年、SOMMレコードから、ジェフリー・スキッドモア指揮のEx Cathedraと、ソリストのCarolyn Sampson、James Gilchrist、William Dazeleyとの共演で、ペネロペの合唱作品と歌曲24曲を収録したCD「From Five Contonents」がリリースされた。
