ピアニスト
Ruth Slenczynska (ルース･スレンチェンスカ)。アメリカの女性ピアニスト。1925年1月15日生まれ。
カリフォルニア州サクラメント生まれ。ポーランド人の父ヨゼフ・スレンチンスキの影響で、3歳の頃からスレンツィンスカはピアノの猛練習を始めた。4歳のときにヨーロッパでピアノの勉強を始め、後にアルトゥール・シュナーベル、エゴン・ペトリ、アルフレッド・コルトー、ヨゼフ・ホフマン、セルゲイ・ラフマニノフに師事した。6歳でベルリン・デビュー、7歳でパリ・デビューを果たし、フルオーケストラと共演した。カリフォルニア大学バークレー校に入学。1964年、南イリノイ大学エドワーズヴィル校(SIUE)のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスに就任し、1987年までその肩書きを引き継いだ。彼女の思い出の品や録音は、SIUEのラブジョイ図書館の特別コレクションとなっている。1957年には、神童としての人生を扱った回想録『Forbidden Childhood,』と、ピアノ奏法に関する本『Music at Your Fingertips: Aspects of Pianoforte Technique』を出版。録音には、ショパン：24のプレリュード、24のエチュード、16のワルツ、4つの即興曲、4つのスケルツォ、4つのバラード、16のワルツ、ポロネーズop.53. リスト/ショパン：6つのポーランド歌曲 リストのスペイン狂詩曲、ホンロワーズ狂詩曲第15番、エチュード第5番、パガニーニの6つの大エチュード、ピアノ協奏曲第1番。サン＝サーンスのピアノ協奏曲第2番(デッカ、1956/1962年)、10 CDs DG Eloquence 2020、Diapason d'or 2021、『My Life in Music』（デッカ、2022年）などがある。日本では2003年、78歳にして劉生容記念館、岡山シンフォニーホールで初の日本公開演奏のライブ・レコーディングを行い、以降も劉生容記念館、岡山シンフォニーホールでリサイタルを行った。2018年にはサントリーホールでリサイタルを開催し、ライブ録音がリリースされている。
