ヴァイオリニスト
Axel Strauss (アクセル・シュトラウス)。ドイツの男性ヴァイオリニスト。1974年生まれ。
17歳の時、ジョルジョ・エネスコ国際コンクールで銀賞を受賞。リューベック音楽大学、ロストック音楽大学でペトル・ムンテアヌに師事。1996年からアメリカに渡り、ジュリアード音楽院でドロシー・ディレイに師事し。彼女の助手として働いた。ドイツ人として初めて、ナウムブルク賞を受賞。2007年にアメリカの作曲家アーロン・ジェイ・カーニスがシュトラウスのために作曲した「Two Awakenings and a Double Lullaby」の世界初演を行った。録音では、ブラームスのヴァイオリン協奏曲やメンデルスゾーンの無言歌集、クラリネットソナタのヴァイオリンバージョンを収録したアルバムをリリースしている。2009年にはピエール・ローデの24のカプリースをリリース。室内楽では、ピアニストのメナヘム・プレスラー、ヴィオラ奏者のキム・カシュカシャン、チェリストのジョエル・クロスニック、バーナード・グリーンハウス、ヴァイオリニストのロバート・マンらと共演している。2012年より、カナダのケベック州にあるマギル大学でヴァイオリンの助教授を務め、後進の指導にあたっている。
