Darol Anger (ダロル・アンガー)

Darol Anger (ダロル・アンガー)。アメリカの男性ヴァイオリニスト。1953年生まれ。
21歳でデビッド・グリスマン五重奏団の創設メンバーとしてポピュラー音楽の世界に入った。1977年のデビッド・グリスマン五重奏団(DGQ)のデビューでは、デビッド・グリスマンのマンドリンに合わせてフィドルを演奏。1985年、デビッド・バラクリシュナンと共同で「タートル・アイランド・ストリング・カルテット」を設立し、この室内ジャズグループのために演奏、作曲、編曲を行った。同じくDGQのメンバーであるマイク・マーシャルとは頻繁にコラボレーションを行っている。パリでピアニストのバーバラ・ヒグビーと出会って共演し、ウィンダム・ヒルから初期のレコード「Tideline」(1982年)をリリースした。その2年後には、マイク・マーシャル、トッド・フィリップス、アンディ・ナレルとともに「ダロル・アンガー／バーバラ・ヒグビー・クインテット」というグループを結成し、1984年のモントルー・ジャズ・フェスティバルに出演した。このクインテットは後にモントルーと名乗るようになる。2枚のスタジオ作品をリリースした後、1990年にバンドは解散し、1985年に結成された「タートルアイランド・ストリング・カルテット」で活動を続けた。現在は、モントルーやサイコグラスの仲間であるマイク・マーシャルとのコラボレーションを続けているほか、バーバラ・ヒグビーやマイケル・マンリングとのコラボレーションも行っている。クラシック、フォーク、ジャズなどの音楽をベースに、現在はスコット・ナイガードと設立した「リパブリック・オブ・ストリングス」を率いている。ピアニストのフィル・アーバーグとも頻繁に共演している。トニー・ライス、ステファン・グラッペリ、マーク・オコナーから、マリン・アルソップ、ビル・エヴァンス、ニッケル・クリーク、クリス・タイル＆パンチ・ブラザーズ、ヨンダー・マウンテン・ストリング・バンド、ベーラ・フレック、タールカ、アノニマス4まで、さまざまなミュージシャンと演奏やレコーディングを行っている。現在はメイン州ポートランド在住。2010年にはバークリー音楽大学の准教授に任命された。2018年のジョン・ハートフォード・メモリアル・フェスティバルでは、アーティスト・アット・ラージを務めた。
