Roman Totenberg (ロマン・トーテンベルク)
ヴァイオリニスト
Roman Totenberg (ロマン・トーテンベルク)。ポーランドの男性ヴァイオリニスト。1911年1月1日生まれ。2012年5月8日没。
ポーランドのウッチでユダヤ人の家系のもとに生まれる。1914年から1921年はモスクワで暮らしていた。11歳でグジェゴシュ・フィテルベルク指揮のオーケストラと共演してデビュー。1921年にワルシャワに戻り、ミェチスワフ・カルウォーヴィチ指揮のワルシャワ・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団と共演してソリストとしてデビュー。1929年にベルリンへ移住しカール・フレッシュに師事。1937年にアルトゥール・ルービンシュタインとともに南アメリカで演奏ツアーを行った。ベートーヴェンのヴァイオリンソナタの全曲演奏やバッハのブランデンブルク協奏曲の全曲演奏を行ったことで知られる。現代作曲家の作品では、ダリウス・ミヨーのヴァイオリン協奏曲第2番や、ウイリアム・シューマンのヴァイオリン協奏曲、クシシュトフ・ペンデレツキの奇想曲、パウル・ヒンデミットのヴァイオリンソナタ、サミュエル・バーバーのヴァイオリン協奏曲などの作曲家の作品の演奏を行った。1938年、27歳の時アメリカへ移住。1961年から1978年の間ボストン大学で弦楽部門のトップを務めた。ピーボディ音楽院、ミュージック・アカデミー・オブ・ウェスト、アスペン音楽学校、マネス音楽大学、ケンブリッジのロンジー音楽院で後進の指導にあたった。教え子には、エフゲニー・クティック。ミラ・ワン、ダニエル・ハン、レイチェル・ヴェッター・フアン、水野郁子(ボストン交響楽団のヴァイオリン奏者)らがいる。1980年の5月にロンジー音楽院のオフィスから自身のヴァイオリンのアメス・ストラディバリウスが盗まれるという事件があったが、彼の死後の2015年の8月にヴァイオリンはトーテンベルク"の娘のもとに戻ってきた。
